Students from Five Universities Participate in LafargeHolcim International Competition for Engineering Designs

 

March 21, 2017, Decided as the Due Date for Entries in LafargeHolcim Competition for Comprehensive Urban Communities

 

Cairo on 10 March 2017: Lafarge Egypt announced its cooperation with engineering faculties in five Egyptian universities inviting them to participate in a two-million dollars international competition organized by LafargeHolcim Foundation every three years. The competition will choose the best innovative engineering designs that achieve sustainable development.

 

Lafarge Egypt cooperated with Cairo, Ain Shams, Suez Canal, and Alexandria Universities as well as the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport. Out of these universities' belief in the importance of its students' participation in international competitions to gain more experience and contribute to developing the society in a sustainable way, these faculties will advertise LafargeHolcim's competition and urge their students and graduates to take part by presenting their projects before the due date on March 21st, 2017.

 

Mansi expressed his optimism with the positive results this step could achieve to both the students who will find a way to present their future projects and designs, as well as universities which will participate in such an important international competition in developing means of sustainable development. 

 

Mansi said, "We requested engineering students in Egyptian universities to submit their designs which serve these goals and that comply with conditions of the competition."He added that Lafarge resorted to university students to benefit from new mentalities and grant them an excellent opportunity to demonstrate their ideas before the competition's juries that include renowned experts and specialists in sustainable development globally.

 

For his part, Dr. Al-Sayed Tag El-Din, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, expressed his pleasure with choosing Cairo University's Faculty of Engineering to participate in LafargeHolcim competition, which is regarded as the largest competition of its kind in the Middle East. This selection reflects Lafarge's interest and confidence in the capabilities and competence of Egyptian universities, according to her. Tag El-Din pointed out that the competition is an important opportunity to present projects tackling societies' actual needs for sustainable development, showcase students' innovations, and create a spirit of competitiveness and cooperation among a large number of students and researchers worldwide.

 

The faculty dean stressed that the competition complies with Cairo University's strategy, which depends on offering various forms of support to students to reveal their capacities, particularly those of the Faculty of Engineering in order to be in keeping with the most recent in such a vital field.
