Lafarge Egypt is the sole cement provider for the base of the Tallest Tower in Africa at the New Administrative Capital

Cairo in 27 February, 2019: Lafarge Egypt- a member of LafargeHolcim Group - announced its selection by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC)- the construction company in charge of building the Central Business District (CBD) in the New Administrative Capital- to be its sole cement provider for the base construction work of the project. The company will supply its cement based on a framework of the long-term partnership between Lafarge Egypt and CSCEC to erect several towers, including the iconic tower that is set to be the tallest in Africa.

Using its high quality Hydrocem Plus cement for the construction work of the towers base, Lafarge Egypt will also take part in the concrete pouring for the iconic tower foundation, along with other companies involved in the project. Concrete pouring extended for 40 consecutive hours as opposed to the 72 hours that were planned for the process which makes it a new pouring record regionally.

The iconic tower challenging project conditions required consecutive concrete pouring for the massive foundation while avoiding the risk of cracks from the heat of hydration and ensuring durability at the same time. With those requirements in mind, Lafarge Hydrocem Plus cement became the safest choice due to its low heat of hydration, 100+ years of durability and extended setting time to allow for continuous pouring.

On this occasion, Eng. Hussein Mansi, Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Egypt said: "We are proud to hold such a long-term cooperation with CSCEC for the construction of such a historical project and we value their trust in our products' quality which magnifies our capabilities in providing tailored and unique products and solutions to meet our customers' needs. Additionally our capability as a company helped us supply large quantities of cement in a short time which helped complete the pouring in 40 consecutive hours only".

It is worth noting that Lafarge Egypt is also engaged in a number of projects in the New Administrative Capital with a wide scope of high quality unique products including steel fibers, different types of concrete beside its Hydrocem Plus cement which was used in mega national projects such as the New Suez Canal tunnels, Metro project (phases 3 & 4), Sumed port among other projects.
