Lafarge Egypt, a member of LafargeHolcim Group, announced the completion of the second phase of its Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Vocational Training Program in Suez for the second consecutive year. The program was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, and the Department of Vocational Education in Suez Governorate.  To mark the celebration, a ceremony took place on the 17th of October at El Nasr Company Training Center in Suez, during which it declared that the total number of direct beneficiaries of the program's two phases has reached 28,000 students.

The program, which was launched in 2016 with a study on labor market needs in Suez, aims to develop and enhance OHS knowledge and soft skills of students in Suez, in order to prepare them to join the workforce after graduation. A number of Lafarge employees, in cooperation with the Technical Education Department in Suez, prepared a manual on OHS concepts, in addition to some soft skills tips for both teachers and students, to be implemented throughout the school year. The program adopts an active learning approach, with different teaching methods to engage students in the program. At the end of the year, a first-of-its-kind competition was launched to engage and examine students with the new OHS concepts they've been introduced to.

In 2018, Lafarge was able to train and qualify new teachers to reach 158 trained teachers compared to 92 teachers last year. The company also managed to increase the number of male and female students, who have directly benefited from the program to reach 16,391 students compared to 11,500 students in 2017. This achievement reflected the company's persistence to reach out to as many teachers as possible, in addition to its continuous development for the program to benefit Suez's students and labor market.

In this context, Eng. Hussein Mansi, Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Egypt said: "We are proud of the success of the second phase of Lafarge's Occupational Health and Safety Vocational Training Program in Suez. I'm proud to announce that the program will be implemented for the third consecutive year, with the cooperation of the governorate's leaders. This decision was due to our belief that the private sector should have an active role in supporting the country's various institutions to achieve their sustainable development objectives, which are key to Lafarge Egypt and the Group.”

He added that Lafarge Egypt was among the first companies that have responded to the government's directions, especially in developing the technical education system to be aligned with the international quality standards, which are the main pillars of the graduation of skilled and well-trained technical workers who are competent to nourish the market with the skills needed.
